학교소개(Intro)
약칭은 ‘BU’이다. 1839년 보스턴의 올드 브롬필드 스트리트교회(Old Bromfield Street Church)의 감리교 목사들과 신도들이 감리회의 지원을 받아 버몬트주(州) 뉴베리에 설립된 '메소디스트 종합성서연구소(Methodist General Biblical Institute)'이 모체이다. 1867년 보스턴으로 이전하여 ‘보스턴신학교(Boston Theological Institute)’로 이름을 바꾸었다가 1869년 감리교 신자인 실업가 리 클래플린(Lee Claflin), 제이콥 슬리퍼(Jacob Sleeper), 아이작 리치(Isaac Rich)의 청원으로 보스턴대학교로 인가를 받아 개편하였다. 이때부터 남녀 학생의 동시 입학이 이루어졌고 1871년 보스턴신학교를 흡수하여 신학대학으로 만들었다.
2010년 기준 문리과대학·통신대학·공과대학·예술대학·일반교양대학·보건재활대학·치의학대학·교육대학·호텔경영대학·법학대학·경영대학·의학대학·공공보건대학·사회복지대학·신학대학· 인문대학원·평생대학·프로페서프로그램대학교·보스턴대학교아카데미에서 250개 이상의 학부, 대학원, 박사, 특별 과정을 제공한다.
주 캠퍼스인 찰스리버 캠퍼스는 보스턴 시가지의 커먼웰스가(Commonwealth Avenu)와 도시철도인 그린라인(Green Line)을 따라 위치한다. 그밖에 미국의 워싱턴, 로스앤젤레스, 영국 런던, 벨기에 브뤼셀, 두바이 등 20개국 33개 도시와 교육 프로그램을 진행한다.
부속시설로 뮤거기념도서관, 하워드고틀리브기록연구센터, 천문대, 아프리카국가기록보관소·연구센터, 앨버트&제시 대니얼슨 알츠하이머연구소, 생체분자공학연구센터, 암연구소, 응용생명기술센터, 에너지환경학센터, 정보·시스템공학센터, 기억·뇌센터, 공간물리센터, 교통학센터 등이 있다. 1964년 노벨 평화상을 받은 흑인해방운동가 마틴 루서 킹, 키프로스 대통령 마카리오스 3세 등을 배출했다.

원서 제출서류(Application Requirements)
◾A prescreening video recording is required for all Cello, Flute, Violin, and Voice applicants who would like to audition live at Boston University. MM Music Education applicants to the Initial Licensure path who wish to take applied music lessons on one of these instruments during their program of study and who wish to audition in Boston must also submit a prescreening video recording.
◾Prescreening is required for all graduate applicants to our Choral Conducting, Orchestral Conducting, and Artist Diploma programs, and a live audition in Boston is required for all applicants to these programs who pass prescreening.
◾Master of Sacred Music degree applicants in Organ and Choral Conducting must submit a prescreening recording.
◾All other graduate programs and instruments are not prescreened.
◾Current BU School of Music students applying to the MM, DMA, or PD programs in the School of Music do not need to submit a prescreening recording – simply email us for help with scheduling your audition. There are no exceptions or waivers to the prescreening requirement for Artist Diploma applicants.
